Nottingham Forest striker Rafa Mir has shared an update confirming he is back in training with the side after sitting out the last three matches through injury.
Mir has not featured for Sabri Lamouchi’s side since their League Cup victory over Derby back in August, but he now appears to be back in contention for their trip to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.
The on-loan Wolves forward has made six appearances for Forest since his arrival in the summer and is yet to find the net for his new club, but he has registered two assists including one in his last outing against Derby.
Forest have excelled during Mir’s absence from the squad as their 3-2 victory over Stoke on Friday night secured their third consecutive win following successes over Swansea and Barnsley in previous weeks.
This leaves the Reds sitting third in the Championship table having not lost since the opening day of the season, and they are about to be further boosted by the return of Mir according to the striker’s Instagram:
Mir will provide support for Lewis Grabban who has the led the line in each of Forest’s nine league fixtures this season, with the former Bournemouth man having scored five goals so far including the third against Stoke on Friday.
Mir’s return to the squad will provide a welcome boost for Lamouchi as his side really start to settle into the season following a string of impressive results.
It is unlikely Mir will overtake Grabban in the Forest pecking order as the 31-year-old has looked sharp this term, but the Wolves loanee will provide some much-needed back-up for Forest’s first-choice frontman.
Mir came off the bench in each of Forest’s first four league outings this term which suggest Lamouchi does rate him highly, so it will be interesting to see what kind of role the 22-year-old plays over the coming weeks.
He probably still needs some time to adapt to the demands of the Championship, so I would expect Lamouchi to phase him back in slowly before he considers placing more trust in the inexperienced striker.
