Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates is likely to be leaving the City Ground on loan in the summer, with two clubs thought to be vying for his signature, according to the Daily Mirror as reported via Hull Live.

Hull City are eager to keep him in the Championship, hoping his steel and endeavour would help them towards Championship survival.

Elsewhere, Kenny Jackett is apparently eager to take him to Portsmouth, the current League One leaders, where he's hoping that Yates' influence will tip the promotion balance in their favour.

Hull clearly have the advantage, they can offer Championship football which would surely aid the development of the talented 20-year old, but they also have the location advantage too. Yates is a Lincoln-born player based in the East Midlands and signing for Hull would mean minimum upheaval.

However, he has previously only played in League One or lower, helping Scunthorpe to a play off spot last season as well as achieving the same at Notts County and it may be another spell in a successful side would be best for the youngster.

Yates has 45 minutes of football under his belt for Forest this season, coming against Bury in the EFL Trophy.

The Verdict

Every so often a player emerges who you know is going to be a talent but his own club don't see it. That is Ryan Yates.

He would be wise in choosing Hull. they may be struggling but he needs regular football at a good level. he did it in both League Two and League One last season, now he needs to prove himself on the bigger stage.
