Fouad Bachirou is close to leaving Nottingham Forest and joining Omonia Nicosia, according to 24sports.

The midfielder joined Forest from Malmo last summer but has since been unable to make an impact at the City Ground.

The 31-year-old has made only three appearances for the Reds in all competitions, and played only 32 minutes of football in the Championship last season.

Ahead of the new season, Bachirou is among a quartet of players who have been told to find new clubs by Chris Hughton. Carl Jenkinson, Harry Arter and Gaetan Bong are also among the group.

Bachirou now looks set for a move to Cyprus, with 24sports claiming that Omonia Nicosia are close to completing a deal for the midfielder.

Omonia are said to want to wrap up a deal quickly, so he can feature in their Europa League qualifier against Flora tomorrow evening.

Hughton will be keen to add to his squad before Sunday's trip to Coventry City, having made only one signing in goalkeeper Ethan Horvath this summer.

The Verdict

The signing of Bachirou was seen as a positive one at first, but he has been unable to make an impact and look set to be on his way out.

Forest have endured a frustrating window and have struggled to get players over the line, so maybe getting players off the wage bill like Bachirou will help them to bring some in.

It's only a start, but it's a positive to get these fringe players off the books when they aren't going to play a part going forward.
