Nottingham Forest player sends positive message to fans on season objectives

The Championship is widely regarded as one of the most competitive leagues in world football, and Nottingham Forest attacker Zach Clough believes 15 sides can still get promoted this season.

Clubs have played ten or eleven game so far this season, with the table just beginning to take shape, although many of the pre-season favourites are struggling to keep up with the pace at the top.

After a bright start, Nottingham Forest suffered a period of bad results until victory against Sheffield United last time out, and went into the international break in 13th position, but just five points away from the top six.

Clough reckons that you have to have belief if you are to achieve the ultimate goal.

If you don’t believe you are going to be promoted, I don’t think you ever will be – so we have to believe that we will be promoted,” he told the Nottingham Post.

The examples over the years of Blackpool, Burnley and Huddersfield Town from just last season show that anyone can succeed in the league and the ex-Bolton forward thinks this will be one of the tightest races for promotion in recent years.

There are such small differences between each team now; there are so many teams at an equal level. I can’t remember so many teams being involved who all have a chance to do it. But we are still among them.”

The Verdict

Once again the Championship is delivering for it’s unpredictability and there doesn’t seem to be a standout team as there has been in recent seasons.

That will make it closer, as Clough says. His ambitious prediction that Forest are still in with a chance will please fans, although they may not be convinced going by recent results.

It’s a league that will be decided by small margins, with most club’s knowing a good run of form can transform their season in an instance.
