Charlton are interested in securing the services of Nottingham Forest midfielder John Bostock as Lee Bowyer aims to bolster his squad ahead of the second half of the season, according to Football Insider.

Bostock joined the Reds on a season-long loan move from Toulouse over the summer, but he has found first-team opportunities limited under Sabri Lamouchi this campaign, and it now appears he could be set to cut his temporary deal short.

The Addicks are now thought to have expressed an interest in making a January loan move for Bostock, with Bowyer in the market for midfield additions following his side's extensive injury problems during the first half of the campaign.

The potential signing of Bostock would require a decision between Forest and Toulouse to cancel their loan agreement, and this would then enable Bostock to link up with the relegation-threatened Addicks for the rest of the campaign.

Bostock has now made just five appearances since being signed on a temporary basis over the summer, with the former Tottenham man having struggled to break into Lamouchi's plans due to his wide array of midfield options.

The Verdict

Forest certainly took a gamble in taking Bostock on loan over the summer, with the midfielder aiming to resurrect his playing career in England, but the 27-year-old has not been at the level required to compete with Forest's first-choice midfielders.

Charlton are in desperate need of any Championship-level players who could help them towards survival in the second tier, and Bowyer could be willing to take a risk on Bostock in order to add another option in the centre of the park.

It will be interesting to see whether Bostock is able to flourish when given more regular playing time in the Championship, but Charlton must now be one of the only clubs willing to take a chance on the Forest outcast.
