Grimsby Town are interested in signing Nottingham Forest forward Virgil Gomis on loan, according to BBC's Matt Dean.

Gomis joined Forest from FC Mantois in 2015, but the young attacker is yet to make a single first-team appearance for the Reds.

The 21-year-old has gone out on loan on three separate occasions, though, in order to gain regular game time and get first-team experience under his belt.

Quiz: Do Nottingham Forest and Derby County have these 10 things in common?

Gomis spent the second-half of the 2018/19 campaign on loan in League Two with Notts County, failing to find the net in a total of 10 appearances for the Magpies.

Last season, Gomis was back in League Two, spending the campaign on loan with Macclesfield Town. The striker scored two goals in 14 games for the Silkmen.

Another loan move to League Two is now in the offing for Gomis, who is reportedly attracting interest from Grimsby Town.

Grimsby and Forest have already done business this summer, with Danny Preston joining Ian Holloway's side on loan for the season.

The Verdict

This could be a good move for Gomis, and it's probably the last chance for him to impress Forest's first-team coaches.

He's now 21 and he's no longer a young boy emerging from the academy - he's had a couple of loan spells away from the club, but has failed to set the world alight.

He will be keen to get some games under his belt and get scoring some goals for the Mariners.
