Nottingham Forest had a strong season this year as they rose up the table under Steve Cooper to reach the play-offs. 

After seeing off Sheffield United over two legs, Forest made it to Wembley where they beat Huddersfield 1-0 to gain promotion back to the Premier League after 23 years away.

Looking forward to next season, the Reds will be keen to keep their place in the top flight and given the impressive work Cooper's done since joining the club, you can imagine he will be backed as much as possible with regards to signings and creating a competitive squad.

According to a report in The Times (via Nottinghamshire Live), the manager will be given between £75m and £100m as a budget to spend on new players.

This is quite remarkable given only Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal spent more than that amount last season.

However, owner Evangelos Marinakis is keen to ensure the money invested by him this season is done wisely making sure that the method is quality over quantity and that any addition will add to what Steve Cooper already has in order to ensure that whilst the budget is high, the club are in a sustainable position too.

The Verdict: 

This budget is a statement of intent from the Forest chairman that his side are not just in the top flight to make up the numbers and they will be pushing to have a good finish in the league.

However, it's important to keep the emphasis on spending wisely because although their income will increase, with no guarantee of staying in the top flight, they don't want to put themselves into a difficult financial position.

That being said, you can't imagine Marinakis has too much to worry about in terms of backing Steve Cooper as he's a well researched manager who knows his stuff. Furthermore, the amount of work he has done with youth players means Forest might be able to spend cheaper in some cases but develop the players at the club.
