Nottingham Forest winger Gboly Ariyibi is on the verge of leaving the club on loan, with Chesterfield the likely destination, according to the Nottingham Post.

Forest originally signed the 23-year-old from the Spireites in 2017, but he has not progressed at the City Ground and was loaned out to MK Dons and Northampton Town last season.

In 34 League One appearances last season, Ariyibi scored just three times. Another three goals followed in the Checkatrade Trophy and one in the League Cup took his tally to seven in 40 matches over spells at the Cobblers and MK.

In the 2014/15 season, he helped Chesterfield reach the League One play-offs after signing from Leeds United in the summer, but they were beaten in the semi-finals by Preston North End.

He had his most impressive spell for the club the following season, making 38 appearances, scoring twice and assisting eight goals.

Chesterfield are still able to loan players as they are currently operating in the National League.

The Verdict

This seems like a decent enough move for everyone involved.

Ariyibi has absolutely zero chance of playing a single minute for Forest this season, so a loan to anyone at all will be good for him.

The fact Forest have not tried to get him a move to a Football League club signals his time at the City Ground is all but officially up as well.
