Millwall are facing a big couple of months, as the festive period and January transfer window look set to shape how the second-half of their season will go.

After such an impressive return to the Championship last year, there was hope at the New Den that Millwall were on the rise under Neil Harris, but the start to this season has been poor and a relegation fight looms unless something changes drastically.

Injuries have been mounting up against Harris in recent weeks, meaning reinforcements are needed in January for more than one reason alone.

One man who could be perfect at the New Den is Daryl Murphy, who finds himself way down the pecking order at a Nottingham Forest side chasing promotion.

Murphy has managed just six Championship appearances this season, but he’s been productive, scoring twice and assisting twice in that time.

The 35-year-old’s move to Nottingham hasn’t been the best, but prior to that, at Ipswich Town, he was superb, with 61 leagues goals coming in almost 200 appearances.

You only have to look at how Ipswich have performed since he departed in 2016 to learn how much of an influence he was.

His physical presence would suit Millwall, and if Harris’ wingers could deliver consistently, he’d thrive leading the line and would return goals.

Of course, his age is a problem, but the 35-year-old is nothing more than a short-term solution until the summer, helping Millwall maintain their Championship status before the summer window, when fresh impetus will be the order of the day again.
