Nottingham Forest midfielder Liam Bridcutt is on the cusp of a move to Championship side Ipswich, with negotiations already underway over a loan deal according to the Nottingham Post.

The 29-year old has struggled for minutes this season, making just one Championship appearance and a further three in the League Cup. That's helped nudge him towards the temporary move to Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys are in urgent need of midfield steel, currently residing bottom of the table with just 15 points to show for their season's endeavours. Whilst Bridcutt hasn't been starring for Forest this season, he's got plenty of pedigree.

He made his name playing for Brighton, but has also enjoyed spells with Leeds United and Sunderland before his Forest switch. It hasn't always been bad for him at the City Ground, he has 24 starts for them, almost exclusively coming under former boss Mark Warburton.

He scored just once for Forest, a consolation in a 2-1 defeat at Cardiff last season and he seems unlikely to add either goals or appearances to his tally before joining Paul Lambert's side.

The Verdict

This is a great move by Ipswich, Bridcutt is a reliable and solid midfielder, not spectacular but someone who will add value to their current group.

He was never in favour with Karanka and since Yacob, Colback and Watson all seem to be ahead of him in the pecking order, a move at this stage of his career is sensible.

If he plays well, his reputation goes up and a move in the summer becomes a reality. Everyone wins.
