Nottingham Forest today confirmed that Jack Lester has left the club to join Chesterfield as their first-team manager.

The former Forest striker has been involved with the club in various youth level roles over the years but feels ready for the step up to management.

Lester will be managing another former club, having played over 200 games for the Spireites over a six-year period and becoming a fans favourite.

Speaking to Forest's official site, the 41-year old revealed how much he had enjoyed his time at the club.

It is a club that has played a big part in my life. As a player I had some amazing times here and more recently as a coach it has been one of the most rewarding jobs I have been in, working in the academy and bringing players through.”

He was also grateful to academy manager Gary Brazil, who gave Lester his full blessing before he made the move.

This is an ideal opportunity for him to make the step up and on behalf of everyone at the Club I would like to wish him the best of luck in his new role.”

Chesterfield are currently 23rd in League Two, with just one win to their name all season, so Lester will be taking over in challenging circumstances.

The Verdict

When the opportunity arrived for Jack Lester to manage a club he has a lot of affection for, it seemed inevitable he would take it.

Whilst working with the younger players at Forest was a great job, the chance to be his own man and work in such a demanding division will appeal.

He was well respected and thought of by all at Forest and the academy products prove how good a job he did.
