Rumours of interest in Scunthorpe United’s Hakeeb Adelakun should cause great excitement amongst Nottingham Forest fans.

The 21-year old is aware of interest from bigger clubs so will likely not be renewing his contract this summer. This will allow him to be snapped up at a heavily discounted rate.

The young winger has had a stunning season.

Making 39 appearances, he notched 12 assists and scored four times as he established himself as one of League One’s most exciting young prospects.

Despite being still a developing talent, this was hardly a breakout season. Adelakun has been a first team regular for five seasons now and has made over 150 appearances for the club.

While predominantly playing on the right, Adelakun has shown that he is able to play on either flank. Indeed his pace and finishing is so highly rated that he was employed as a striker in a handful of games towards the end of the season. Such versatility makes him a highly valuable potential signing. He would fit in well with either the 4-2-3-1 or the 4-3-3 formations utilised by Aitor Karanka.

It is unlikely he would play as a number 10, but, should an injury crisis hit, he would provide competent cover.

Forest will face a challenge in convincing Adelakun to leave the club he has called home for six years. However, the promise of Championship football should be enough to sway him.

They will need to act fast though; they will not be the only interested party.
