Nottingham Forest fans across the country breathed a huge sigh of relief on the final day of the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship season, as their side hammered Ipswich Town to secure their place in the division for another season.

Forest endured a poor run of form towards the end of the campaign, and were sucked into a nerve racking relegation fight which saw the club escape demotion by the skin of their teeth.

After guiding the Reds to safety, new manager Mark Warburton will use this summer transfer window to ensure the same fiasco does not occur again next season.

Forest had no problems scoring goals this season, and registered a respectable 62 strikes across 46 league games.

At the back however, their record was shocking, conceding 72, which was beaten by rock bottom Rotherham United who shipped an eye watering 98 goals.

Warburton will look to sure up his defence this summer, and one man the former Rangers boss should turn to is the soon to be free agent, Ryan Bennett.

Bennett joined Norwich from Peterborough in a big money move back in 2012, and made 27 appearances for the East Anglian club last year.

Having also played for the Canaries in the Premier League, Bennett would add an experienced edge to Forest’s defensive unit, and Warburton should strongly consider a swoop for the player in the coming weeks.
