Nottingham Forest boss Philippe Montanier has struggled so far in what is his first season managing in English football.

After his appointment in the summer, influenced by the previous potential new owner Evangelos Marinakis, Forest fans were optimistic after hearing of his successes such as guiding Real Sociedad to the Champions League.

However, the Frenchman has struggled to get to grips with the English game, frequently changing his starting eleven and tactics every week meaning the Reds have failed to achieve any real consistency so far this campaign.

Admittedly, injuries to some key players including the likes of Britt Assombalonga, Chris Cohen, Henri Lansbury and many, many more has not helped his cause.

Nonetheless, you just sense unless results start to pick up over the Christmas period, Montanier could be on his way when the new owners complete their takeover in the forthcoming weeks.

Former Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett is now available after his shock dismissal from the Blues and he could be the perfect man to replace Montanier should he go.

Here are two reasons why...

Knowledge of the English game

On too many occasions this season, some of Philippe Montanier's summer signings have not looked interested enough in a red shirt.

The likes of Pajtim Kasami, Nicklas Bendtner, Damien Perquis, Lica and Nicolao Dumitru have simply not given enough to the cause this year and it has been disappointing to see.

Forest need a manager who is an expert of the English a game, a sort of manager who knows a bargain in League Two who could really bring something to the team and in Gary Rowett, they would get exactly this.

Rowett has been there and done it in both League Two, League One and the Championship and is an expert at getting results and building successful teams and this is something Forest could do with under fresh ownership.

An effective style of football

Under Philippe Montanier, it has been very entertaining at times this season.

The Frenchman has tried to implement a passing and attacking brand of football and whilst it has been effective in some games, on too many occasions the Reds have been punished in defence.

In 22 games, the Reds have only kept one clean sheet so far which is a very concerning fact for Forest fans to hear.

Under Gary Rowett, Forest would undoubtedly be stronger at the back and more effective going forward, like he showed during his time at Birmingham City.

Since the Brian Clough days, the City Ground faithful have expected a passing and attacking brand of football whilst building from the back.

They may not get this style of football with Rowett, but he will get Forest results and get them challenging at the top of the table which is exactly what they need right now.
