What an end to the season it was for Portsmouth, and their star midfielder, Kal Naismith.

Smashing 7 goals in the final 9 games of the Sky Bet League Two season, Naismith’s side entered the last day of the campaign as one of 3 teams still vying for the title.

With Doncaster slipping up at Hartlepool, and Plymouth’s draw at Grimsby, Pompey’s home demolition of Cheltenham Town saw the south coast club record their first trophy since the FA Cup in 2008.

The jubilant scenes at Fratton Park are sure to be remembered for years to come, and many feel the former Premier League side are finally on their way back.

With a place in League One to look forward to next season, manager Paul Cook will look to build a squad capable of competing at the higher level, but will understand that clubs higher up will be sniffing around his biggest assets.

Naismith is one player sure to be attracting attention, and one club who should ponder a move for the player is Nottingham Forest.

Avoiding the drop on the final day, Forest manager Mark Warburton will look to his first full season in charge with the believe that his side will not be sucked into the relegation scrap once again.

The former Brentford manager has a reputation from his time in west London for plucking players from further down the divisions, and will be sure to continue this trend in Nottingham.

This is where Naismith may enter the manager’s thoughts.

A dangerous midfielder with an eye for goal, Naismith smashed 13 goals in only 22 starts for Pompey last term, and was instrumental in their title success.

Warburton’s side have lacked a serious goal scoring threat away from top scorer Britt Assombalonga this season, and the loss of goal scoring midfielder and captain Henri Lansbury in January was a major blow.

With a year remaining on his Pompey deal, Warburton may be able to secure the Scot for a reasonable fee, and continue his success in developing lower league stars into Championship regulars.

At 25 Naismith is entering the defining years of his career, and if a move to the second tier were to materialise, then the midfielder would surely struggle to turn it down.

Young, dangerous and talented, Naismith would make an excellent addition to the squad at the City ground.
