Nottingham Forest will not be signing Abel Hernandez this summer, with the striker now completing a move to Qatar side Al Ahli.

The Reds had been linked with the signing of the former Hull City forward, with Sport890 via Nottingham Post crediting Forest, Penarol, Trabzonspor and Al-Rayyan with an interest.

The 28-year-old established himself as a proven goalscorer in the Championship for the Tigers, netting 22 goals as they won promotion to the Premier League in 2015/16.

But now, the Uruguay international has completed a move to Al Ahli, following his recent release from Russian giants CSKA Moscow.

Up front, Forest look short of options, with the likes of Hillal Soudani, Karim Ansarifard and Apostolos Vellios all departing the City Ground for foreign sides this summer.

With Jason Cummings and Daryl Murphy also looking set to leave the East Midlands club, Lewis Grabban and Tyler Walker are Sabri Lamouchi's only out and out forwards to choose from going into the new season.

Forest begin their campaign with a home clash against West Bromwich Albion next week.

The Verdict

This will be a disappointing blow for Forest if they did hold a genuine interest in Hernandez.

It would have been a shrewd piece of business if they were to land a striker of his quality on a free transfer, but a move to Qatar also suggests that his wages are very hefty indeed.

I think that Forest definitely need to strengthen their attacking options before they kick off the brand new season, but time is running out for sure.
