Charlton Athletic are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Harry Arter, according to Football Insider.

It is claimed that a deal has been agreed between both clubs over a deal for the former AFC Bournemouth midfielder this summer.

Arter signed for Nottingham Forest back in 2020, and has gone on to make 14 appearances for the Reds in total, but it seems as though his time at the City Ground is heading towards a conclusion.

Forest are currently rooted to the bottom of the Championship table, after losing their opening four matches in this year's league campaign, much to the frustration of the club's supporters.

Arter would be no stranger to his surroundings at Charlton, with the midfielder previously being on the books with the Addicks as a youngster, before moving to Woking in 2009.

Charlton are currently playing their football in League One, and will be targeting promotion into the Championship this term, whilst under the management of Nigel Adkins.

Charlton are set to return to action on Saturday afternoon, when they host Crewe Alexandra, in what could potentially be a tricky test for the Addicks.

The Verdict:

This could be the ideal move for all parties involved.

Arter has shown that he can perform to a high standard, having had a number of successful years with AFC Bournemouth not so long ago.

But since leaving the Vitality Stadium, he's struggled to settle down with Nottingham Forest, and it's not a surprise to see him moving on this summer.

You would imagine that he'll feel as though he has unfinished business with Nigel Adkins' side, and the Charlton boss will be hoping to get the best out of Arter this season, as they look to win promotion back into the Championship this season.
