Nottingham Forest have recently announced their retained list following the end of the 2018/19 campaign, as Martin O'Neill looks to rebuild and reshape his squad for the new season.

Reds fans will sleep easy knowing that the likes of Joe Lolley, Joao Carvalho and Lewis Grabban are under contract for at least another year at the City Ground, whilst plenty of supporters will be urging the club to re-sign Sam Byram and Jack Colback after impressive loan spells with the club.

Two players will leave the East Midlands side, with Stephen Henderson and Jamie Ward being let go by the club, perhaps unsurprisingly.

There are players at the club, though, that can definitely count themselves lucky that they are under contract by the club for at least another season, as they could well have been let go with ease.

Jorge Grant is a prime example of one of those players, and he will be looking to make a dramatic improvement in pre-season as he looks to force his way into O'Neill's first-team plans.

The 24-year old was tipped for big things after a hugely impressive season on loan with Notts County in the 2017/18 campaign, scoring 19 goals and helping the Magpies reach the play-offs in League Two.

But after his loan deal at Luton Town was terminated in January of this year, he really failed to make his chance on loan with Mansfield Town count.

The playmaker began life at the One Call Stadium in some style, scoring four goals in his first five appearances for the promotion-chasing Stags, but his time with David Flitcroft's men soon went downhill.

The midfielder saw his place in the starting line-up become unstable, and he was an unused substitute in both of the Stags' play-off semi-final clashes with Newport County, bar a one minute cameo in the second leg.

Unlike his Forest teammate Tyler Walker, Grant has simply failed to make an impact out on loan this season, and has hardly done enough to convince O'Neill that he is capable of stepping up to the Forest first-team.
