Matty Cash opened his Nottingham Forest account with a long overdue goal against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

Forest made it three games without a defeat as the ran riot at Loftus Road, running out 5-2 winners and going a long way to dispelling their recent goalscoring woes.

Cash piled in as well, getting his first goal for the club, and has shed some light on what has been behind the recent good form for Aitor Karanka's men.

Also, he has credited two of his team-mates for helping him improve his performances within games, speaking to the Nottingham Post.

He said: "Confidence and communication out on the pitch are superb. Ben Watson, who is playing in midfield and Tendayi (Darikwa), at right back – they are both pulling me in and telling me where to be.

"We just have to keep working hard. We have had three decent results now, scrapping out a point with 10 men at Burton and we played fantastic in the second half against Reading.

“It was a well-deserved win over QPR, the manager had the game plan right. It is a big game against Birmingham but every game we have left is a big game."

The Verdict

This approach has Karanka's DNA all over it.

He will want his players to be solid and know their defensive responsibilities all over the pitch.

That requires communication from the team - they are a new group of players who have some injuries so it will take time.
