Nottingham Forest young goalkeeper Tim Erlandsson is set to depart the club after having his contract ripped up at the City Ground, according to reports from Swedish media outlet Expressen.

The 22-year old joined the Reds from Halmstads BK in 2014, and after an impressive loan spell with the club, signed a permanent deal the year after.

The youngster has since been a regular figure in the Forest youth teams since his move from Sweden as a 17-year old, but the Swede has never made a first-team appearance for the Reds, with young goalkeepers Jordan Smith and Dimitar Evtimov being chosen ahead of him in recent years.

Erlandsson has endured loan spells at National League sides Barrow and Salford City in over the last few years, but reports have now surfaced that his contract at the City Ground is set to be torn up, with a move to Swedish second division side IK Frej now on the cards.

Forest have made a poor start to life under Martin O'Neill, losing 1-0 at home to promotion rivals Bristol City last weekend. The Reds now sit 12th in the Sky Bet Championship table, seven points off the play-offs after just one win in their last eight league outings.

The Verdict

This is hardly surprising to say the least.

Forest have far too many goalkeepers in their ranks for Erlandsson to make an impact, but even Jordan Smith, who is a better goalkeeper than the Swede, quite frankly, finds himself out on loan at Mansfield Town in League Two.

It's best for his career if he does indeed depart the club.
