Nottingham Forest's Ryan Yates is poised to join Rotherham United on a loan deal until January as the youngster looks for regular football.

The midfielder is highly-regarded at the City Ground and is contracted to the East Midlands side until 2021, however there is fierce competition for places in Aitor Karanka's squad.

Therefore, according to Football Insider, the Reds are ready to sanction a move for the 20-year-old to join the Millers, who have beaten off competition from several clubs to land Yates.

It will be another temporary move for the academy graduate, who enjoyed a very productive season in the previous campaign.

Yates enjoyed a very successful first part of the campaign with Notts County in League Two before stepping up to the third-tier at the start of 2018 with Scunthorpe.

And, after a promising pre-season, where Yates featured for the Reds, Karanka will be keen to monitor his progress in the Championship.

Providing the deal gets completed before Friday's 5pm deadline, he will join up with a Rotherham side that are 15th in the table with two wins from five games.

The Verdict

This looks as though it's an ideal move for all parties. Yates is talented but his development would be halted at Forest as there's too many players in front of him.

Given that, a move was inevitable and Rotherham provide him with a great platform to show what he can do at this level.

If he impresses, then it could see him force his way into Karanka's plans by January.
