Nottingham Forest defender Danny Fox is expected to have sealed a move to join Wigan by the end of the day.

The 32-year-old had regularly featured under Aitor Karanka, however he was suspended for Martin O'Neill's first game and didn't make the matchday squad for the win on Saturday - ironically against the Latics.

That's because Nottingham Live have revealed that Fox is poised to join Paul Cook's men, with the two clubs agreeing a fee of around £300,000.

Wigan had initially had a £200,000 offer for the versatile defender rejected but terms have now been agreed for the player who was out of contract in the summer.

The report also states that Fox was open to the move because the north-west side are prepared to offer him a longer contract that he welcomes at this stage of his career.

Providing everything goes through as expected, it will end a five-year stay for the player at the City Ground and he could be involved for Wigan as they face QPR this weekend.

Meanwhile, O'Neill will be hoping for a busy end to the window as he targets several new recruits.

The Verdict

This looks like a done deal and it's a move that makes sense for all parties.

Fox was not going to be guaranteed regular football under O'Neill and with his contract up in the summer he faced an uncertain future.

This gives him more security and Forest get a fee, whilst Paul Cook has brought in an experienced player that will help his side.
