Nottingham Forest will not be signing Leo Bonatini from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer after the striker’s disappointing loan spell at the City Ground.

Bonatini made the switch from Molineux to Forest on transfer deadline-day back in January, with the striker arriving with the aim of helping the Reds achieve their play-off dream during the second-half of the season.

However, the 25-year-old had a limited impact under Martin O’Neill, making only five appearances and failing to score a goal, often getting minutes for the club’s under-23 side.

Now, the Express and Star are reporting that the Brazilian is heading back to Wolves and Forest will not be looking to sign him permanently ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Previously, Bonatini had been a hit in the Championship with Wolves, scoring 12 goals for the club during the 2017/18 campaign, which helped the Molineux club on their way to the league title and promotion.

All those goals came during the first-half of the season, though, with Bonatini having little impact over the last 18 months.

The report claims that Wolves may look to use Bonatini to bolster their squad for their upcoming Europa League campaign, which will begin over the course of the summer.

The Verdict

This isn’t really a surprise, with Bonatini flopping during his loan spell with Forest.

The warning signs were all there after Bonatini endured a tough 12 months at Wolves, but Forest obviously felt that at his best he could have some form of impact in the Championship.

Where he goes from here will be interesting to see.
