Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings was delighted to get off the mark with current loan club Shrewsbury, even though his side only managed a 1-1 draw with Wimbledon.

Speaking to the club's official website, Cummings admitted he was pleased to get his own account up and running, despite the result not quite going Salop's way.

"It could've been better, we could've got the three points, but on a personal level it was good to come on and get a goal and get off the mark and hopefully now I can kick on and get a few more goals for the boys."

Cummings came off the bench on 68 minutes with his side trailing 1-0 to Ethan Ebanks-Landell's first half own goal. He'd barely been on the pitch five minutes when he restored parity and earned his side a valuable point.

"I was desperate to get on, I've not had the best pre-season and I'm not fully 100% fit and I knew that I was not going to start the game but when I got on it was a great ball by Gilo. I was delighted when I scored. I've honestly missed it, I've actually just missed playing, never mind scoring."

The aim for the former Hibernian striker is to push Sam Ricketts' side up the League One table and challenge for a top six spot.

"I feel like if we want to challenge and try being in the top six, we've got to be winning games like this," he added.

Shrewsbury have a great chance to get some more points in the bag this week as struggling Southend visit the New Den.

The Verdict

Jason Cummings is an able and exciting striker when his mind is right. He should score lots of goals in League One and yesterday is clearly just the beginning of his Salop spell.

If he stays focused and fit, he could easily knock in 20. He's been prolific before but bad choices and runs out of the team affect him. He's obviously a player who thrives on being involved.

Shrewsbury might have pulled off the coup of the transfer window when they bagged the 24-year-old from Forest.
