Nottingham Forest are looking to bring Sam Byram back to the Sky Bet Championship on a season-long loan this summer.
According to a report in The Sun, Byram looks set to leave West Ham on a temporary basis this summer, with Forest looking like his next destination.
Byram has been with West Ham since January 2016, when turned his back on Leeds United and made the switch to London.
However, the attack-minded right-back has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, making just 36 appearances across all competitions in two-and-a-half years.
Karanka is keen to take Byram, 24, off West Ham’s hands for the year, as he looks to add some Championship experience at right-back following Eric Lichaj’s departure.
Despite struggling at West Ham, Byram has an excellent reputation in the Championship, having impressed on the right of midfield and defence during his spell at Elland Road.
Having come through Leeds’ academy, Byram made 130 Championship appearances for the Whites, scoring nine goals.
The 24-year-old also made further 13 appearances in the FA Cup and League Cup, which brought a further goal.
Bringing Byram in on-loan will free up funds for Karanka to strengthen other areas of his playing squad.
This is an extremely shrewd piece of business for Forest, with Byram an excellent right-back at Championship level.
Byram has plenty of ability, and although he has struggled with West Ham, during his time at Elland Road he was impressive.
Added to the business that Karanka has already done, this is extremely encouraging for Forest, who look like they will be in good shape ahead of the new season.
