Former Nottingham Forest stalwart Kenny Burns has said that Aitor Karanka must be looking at the form of Jason Cummings, who is currently on loan at Rangers in his native Scotland from the City Ground.

Livewire forward Cummings has six goals from ten appearances for the Scottish giants after Karanka allowed him to depart the City Ground on a temporary basis in the January transfer window.

Burns has told the Nottingham Post that the form of Cummings should be attracting the attention of the former Middlesbrough manager with one eye on the summer.

He said: "Aitor Karanka must be taking notice of Jason Cummings. Six goals in his first 10 matches on loan at Rangers, including a first hat-trick of his career, if he keeps up that strike-rate between now and the end of the season, you would expect him to get a chance to impress the Forest boss come pre-season.

"If he does want to come back to the City Ground, then you hope playing in the Scottish Premiership for half a season, and scoring goals, will give him the belief he can do the business in the Championship – not that he’s ever short of confidence.

"He’s scored lots of goals for Hibs and he’s banging them in for Rangers now. It’s up to Karanka and the player himself to decide if he gets the chance to prove he can score goals for Forest."

The Verdict

I don't think that Cummings is a natural fit for Karanka's style at all.

Karanka needs disciplined players, especially in wide areas and Cummings is more of an individual, who would also be trying to adapt to the highest level he has ever played at - the Championship.

Scottish football looks like a more natural fit for him. He is happy in Scotland and scoring goals north of the border - I don't see a return to Forest being likely or successful, in truth.
