Nottingham Forest legend Kenny Burns has been impressed with the impact Lee Tomlin has made since joining the club but insists he isn't the new Andy Reid.

Supporters chanted 'Reidy!' at Tomlin when he was substituted at Burton Albion on Saturday, with the 29-year old drawing comparisons with the former fans favourite due to his appearance and creative style.

However, Burns told the Nottingham Post that the former Middlesbrough man is a different player to the ex-Ireland international.

"I was really impressed with Lee Tomlin. I heard the fans chanting ‘Reidy! Reidy!’ when he went off, and I can see why, but they are different players."

"Reid had great ability on the ball, he was brilliant. Tomlin's decent on the ball as well, but I think he will score you more goals if you give him the ball in the right areas."

Tomlin joined the club on deadline day from Cardiff City in a deal that saw Jamie Ward go the other way and has made three appearances for the Reds so far and is sure to feature when Reading visit the City Ground tonight.

The Verdict

There are certainly similarities in the build of Reid and Tomlin and Forest fans will hope their new signing can have a similar impact on the pitch now.

Reid was fantastic for the Reds and put in great performances during two spells that endeared him to the supporters.

As Kenny Burns says, Tomlin is a different type of player but clearly has the potential to be a fans favourite if he performs.
