Nottingham Forest legend Kenny Burns, a two-time European Cup winner, believes that there are two members of the current squad in line to be sold this season, according to a report in the Daily Record.

He was speaking in relation to Joe Worrall, the defender currently on loan at Rangers. Worrall has forced his way into the Rangers side and is growing in confidence and stature.

His route to the Forest first team is currently blocked by a host of other players, names such as Michael Dawson and Michael Hefele keeping Worrall on the fringes. However, Burns believes that one or two of the existing squad will be sold, clearing the way for Worrall next season.

“If I was Gerrard, I would play Worrall," he said. "He’s on loan for a year and when he comes back to Nottingham Forest I think he’ll be captain because he’s a leader."

“I was a bit surprised Nottingham Forest allowed him to leave but Aitor Karanka had brought in Michael Dawson and he’s got Tobias Figueiredo, Danny Fox and the boy Michael Hefele from Huddersfield. One or two of those players might leave next season and Worrall will come in and by that time he’ll be better for his year at Ibrox."

21-year old Worrall has made five appearances so far for Steven Gerrard's side, including an impressive debut in the Europa League against Villarreal.

The Verdict

A year on loan in Scotland playing Europa League football must seem incredible for Worrall, before his move the best he could hope for was a bit of League Cup action.

He'll grow quickly up there and come back a much more rounded player. Whether he'll outgrow Forest remains to be seen, but if they fail to go up he might have a taste of the big time and see his future elsewhere.
