Nottingham Forest are currently winning the race for Colchester United midfielder Brendan Wiredu, as per a report from Football Insider.
The 22-year-old has featured 21 times this season for the Essex outfit, with 15 of those matches coming in League Two.
Wiredu has also chipped in with three assists in the league thus far this season, adding a further goal and an assist in the FA Cup.
The report states that the Reds are facing competition from multiple EFL clubs, with it yet to be established who those clubs might be.
Quiz: Can you remember Nottingham Forest’s last 16 Boxing Day results?
Joining the U’s in January 2020 on loan from Charlton Athletic, Wiredu’s deal at the JobServe Community Stadium was made permanent in February 2021.
Wiredu almost immediately became an integral member of the club’s starting XI when he rejoined on a permanent deal last time out, appearing 20 times during the second half of last season.
Growing a reputation as an all-action midfielder who makes an impact at both ends of the pitch, Wiredu’s technical ability is an indication that he can go on to excel at a much higher level than League Two.
Given his physicality, ability in possession and reading of the game, it will be no surprise to see a Championship move coming to fruition in January.
If he does arrive at The City Ground, it will be interesting to see if the Reds will immediately view him as a regular within the squad, or if a League One loan move will be deemed the next best step in his development.
