Luton Town defender Dan Potts is a target for Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Wigan, according to HITC.

He was part of the Hatters' promotion-winning campaign last season where they finished second behind Accrington Stanley.

Potts made 42 league appearances with six goals and five assists, which shows the attacking nature of his role in the team even though he was a full-back, which is why Championship clubs are interested.

Luton became known for their ambitious style of play under Nathan Jones because they played high up the pitch and constricted space between the lines for the opposition.

Potts was a key part of that system because he had to decide when to support attacks as well forming part of a high defensive line.

This system was entertaining as well as successful because they scored 94 goals or an average of more than two per game.

The Verdict

Jones' system requires a lot from his team, especially the defenders, because of their involvement in build-up as well as the space that can be exploited behind them.

Therefore, these players are much more likely to successfully deal with the transition up to the Championship than other players at that level.

Forest need a left-back due to Ben Osborn being used there by Aitor Karanka even though he is a midfielder, so Potts would be a good acquisition.

However, he might have to temper some of his attacking tendencies because Karanka utilises a defensive set-up which prioritises control over everything else.
