Nottingham Forest are struggling to finance a move for goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, according to a reliable football journalist.

Alan Nixon is reporting that Pantilimon will cost Nottingham Forest a bit too much money so they may to look elsewhere.

The 6ft 8in goalkeeper spent the latter half of last season at The City Ground, on loan from Watford, and Aitor Karanka wanted to keep him.

Watford are willing to let him go but finances could be a stumbling block in this deal.

The 27-cap Romania international has previously played in England for Manchester City and Sunderland, as well as spending a period out on loan at Deportivo La Coruna last year.

But Forest, who have already smashed their transfer record this summer, might struggle to see this deal over the line with Pantilimon costing a bit too much - either in wages, in transfer fees or both.

Karanka wants a new goalkeeper after Stefanos Kapino and Jordan Smith both failed to establish themselves as the number one choice last year but he might have to look elsewhere with Pantilimon costing a lot.

The Verdict

Pantilimon impressed on loan last season and he is a solid Championship stopper.

But if his wage demands are unrealistic, there are plenty of alternatives out there.

Forest should consider a swoop for Jamal Blackman, Angus Gunn or Danny Ward instead if they cannot land Pantilimon.
