Lewis Walters is heading for the exit door at the City Ground, with the young Nottingham Forest striker set for a loan spell in the National League with Barrow.

According to Alan Nixon, Forest will loan Walters to Barrow for the remainder of the season, allowing the forward to gain some senior football in the coming weeks.

Walters has struggled for first-team opportunities at the City Ground and looks unlikely to break his way into Aitor Karanka’s plans anytime soon, paving the way for a loan move back to the National League.

The Leeds United academy graduate spent time with Barrow earlier this season, but managed to make just two appearances in the National League in December before returning to Forest.

The 22-year-old, should he complete his move to Barrow, will be linking up with a side currently fighting relegation in the National League.

Barrow sit 20th in the table after 33 fixtures, just two points above the relegation zone ahead of the run-in.

Barrow face Macclesfield, the National League leaders, this weekend.

The Verdict

Walters is yet to make a senior appearance for Forest, and that chance under Karanka doesn’t appear to be coming anytime soon, meaning a loan move away makes perfect sense.

At 22, Walters should really be playing first-team football at some level and he will hope to make an impact at Barrow, should he return.

Forest will want to see the forward amongst the goals and playing regularly for the National League outfit.
