Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Udinese defender Molla Wague on loan until the end of the season.

The centre-back becomes Martin O'Neill's fourth signing of the winter window after the arrival of Wolves striker Leo Bonatini, Leicester defender Yohan Benalouane and Monaco midfielder Pele as he looks to revive the Reds ailing promotion hopes.

Wague has previously had spells with Watford and Leicester City in England so arrives at the City Ground with some knowledge of what he is letting himself in for.

The 27-year-old has also broken onto the international scene as well, making 28 appearances for Mali and scoring four goals as well.

Despite a disappointing campaign Forest still remain in with a shot of promotion, sat in ninth place but just four points behind Derby County who occupy the final spot in the play-off places.

This weekend sees them face a tough trip to Garry Monk's Birmingham City at St. Andrews as both clubs look to make late bursts for the top-six.

The verdict

It looks like a bit of a risk this.

Yes, he has experience of English football but that experience has rarely gone particularly well so it will be interesting to see if O'Neill can be the man to get the best out of him.

But the Reds needed more depth at the back and being a loan deal it is hardly a risky move for the club,
