Nottingham Forest have pulled off the signings of two Benfica players, the club has confirmed.

The Portuguese duo, Alfa Semedo and Yuri Ribiero, have become the club's third and fourth signings of the summer window.

Alfa Semedo, 21, who featured three times in the Champions League last year for the Portuguese champions, comes on a year loan deal. He scored the winner versus AEK Athens in the Champions League group game.

The defensive midfielder has played five times in the league for Benfica and spent part of last season on loan at Espanyol.

Yuri Ribiero has joined the club on a permanent deal, but the length of the contract has not been revealed.

The left back has been at Benfica since 2012, but has not featured in the league for the club.

This is the third Portuguese signing since Sabri Lamouchi joined the club, after midfielder Tiago Silva signed from Feirense on a two-year deal. Sammy Ameobi has also since joined the club.

With Lamouchi having Jorge Mendes as his agent - Nottinghamshire Live - then there is a strong potential that those links have helped get these deals over the line, and bring the Portuguese pair to the Championship.

The Verdict

Like many unproven players in the Championship, it is really hard to predict whether they will be good business or not. However, looking at their experiences then they seem good signings.

Benfica has one of the greatest pools of talent in Portugal, if not Europe, therefore you have to be a top player to come through the system and feature for the first team.

Also, with both at a young age they should be willing to learn and improve at the club.

With three signings from Portugal already been made, maybe we can expect more as Lamouchi looks to benefit from his relationship with Jorge Mendes.
