Nottingham Forest will be looking ahead to next season with a renewed sense of optimism after Martin O'Neill's side secured consecutive wins in their final three games of the season.

O'Neill had found himself under pressure at the City Ground, with his side producing an uninspiring run of form that saw them fail to win away until the penultimate game of the season against QPR.

Following their promising conclusion, Forest can now look ahead to what is likely to be a summer of upheaval at the club with a number of players expected to be moved on as O'Neill truly puts his stamp on the side.

But while O'Neill sets plans in motion for next season, there is one figure at the club who has admitted he would like to take on the management role at some point in the future.

Former Forest midfielder Chris Cohen has been coaching in the club's U23 set-up this season following his retirement last year, and he has admitted that the first team is where he wants to end up.

“I am still really young; I am still learning," Cohen told Nottinghamshire Live.

"But the end goal has always been to address the fact that I missed a lot of that winning and losing as a player, because of the injuries.

“First team football is where I want to end up. How quickly that comes, we will see.”

Cohen made over 300 appearances for the Reds during his 11-year stint at the club, but he was forced to retire at the end of the 2017/18 season after struggling with injury.

The Verdict

Cohen is a clear candidate to occupy the City Ground hot-seat at some point in the future.

After seeing his career cut short, he will be hungry to make an impact in management and there is no better place for him to do that than with the club he represented for many years.

He has all the hallmarks to be a good manager. He just needs to develop his playing style with the academy set-up, but the Forest hierarchy will be well aware they have a manager-in-waiting already at the club.
