Former Nottingham Forest player and manager Frank Clark insists the current crop shouldn't care about any outside criticism as they look to win promotion.

Sabri Lamouchi's men are firmly in the race for a top two finish but several pundits, most recently Andy Hinchcliffe, have stated that the Reds aren't good enough to secure automatic promotion.

A criticism has been the style of play, but Clark told Nottinghamshire Live that the boss has done a great job and that it's clearly working.

"There’s more than one way to skin a cat. We don’t all have to play the same way. Just because we don’t have the majority of possession in all the games doesn’t mean we can’t win them - and we’ve shown that. If it gets the results, it doesn’t matter how we play.

"It’s going very, very well so far. If someone had said before the season started that we’d be fifth, in the play-off places, with 13 games to go, we’d have been delighted. Sabri has done very well since he’s come in."

Forest are back in action on Saturday when they welcome QPR to the City Ground.

The verdict

You have to agree with Clark here. There's no right or wrong way to play football and it's pretty clear that what the Reds are doing is working.

Lamouchi inherited a squad that haven't really been near the promotion places for years, so to transform the team so quickly deserves enormous credit.

Nobody connected to the club will care that people are writing them off or questioning their style, instead the focus will be on beating the R's this weekend.
