Nottingham Forest and Barnsley are both tracking Norway international Bjorn Johnsen as they look to add to their strikeforce this summer.

The 27-year-old is currently playing in the Eredivisie for AZ Alkmaar, where he scored six goals last season.

Whilst that's not the most impressive return, Johnsen wasn't always a regular and he earned the move after hitting 19 goals at the same level for ADO Den Haag the year before.

And, according to Football Insider, the Championship pair are keen on bringing the quick striker to the second tier for what would be his first taste of English football. However, Johnsen may be known to some fans in the UK as he had a year in Scotland with Hearts for the 2016/17 campaign.

He has a impressive record at international level too, having scored five times in 13 games, including a brace as his country beat the Faroe Islands in a Euro qualifier last month.

Forest are particularly desperate for new faces in the final third having sold Hillal Soudani and Karim Ansarifard in this window.

The Verdict

Even though Johnsen hasn't consistently found the net over the years, he would bring a lot to either side and could flourish in the Championship.

Firstly, at 6ft 5in, he has a real presence and he is also quick which means he can turn the opposition, so he is always a handful.

The challenge for either club would be to get the best out of Johnsen on a regular basis but it's a risk worth taking when you think of how important he could be to either Forest or Barnsley.

You can't imagine AZ will stand in his way if a suitable offer comes in so it's now down to either club to move ahead as they try to finalise a deal.
