Nottingham Forest are interested in Porto goalkeeper Jose Sa as Aitor Karanka looks to find a new number one to improve his side.

The Reds are on the lookout for a new stopper after Costel Pantilimon's loan spell at the City Ground ended at the end of last season, and he was thought to be a target.

However, the Nottingham Post have today revealed that reports from Greece suggest they are keen on the Porto stopper who had been linked with Wolves over the past 12 months.

The 25-year old was the number one for the Portuguese giants early on last season but lost his place to Spanish legend Iker Casillas after a high-profile error against Liverpool.

Nevertheless, he is a highly-rated keeper and would be a major coup for the Reds. And, should he arrive he would be the latest Portuguese recruit that has Jorge Mendes connections as he is the players agent.

Forest recently smashed their club-record transfer fee to bring in attacking midfielder Joao Carvalho from Benfica, whilst Diogo Goncalves moved to the East Midlands from the Lisbon side.

The Verdict

This would be another statement signing from Forest and would be a real improvement on what they have at the minute.

Clearly, it's an area they need to strengthen and fans will be delighted to see Karanka is desperate to bring in new players.

Whether this rumour has legs remains to be seen but it's safe to say it's going to be an exciting summer for Forest as they gear up for a promotion push.
