Forest boss Dougie Freedman has seen his midfield options decimated in recent weeks with Ben Osborn and Michael Mancienne the most recent additions to the injury list.

The ex-Southampton midfielder has fallen way down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium, amid suggestions of a falling out with new boss Claudio Ranieri.

It was thought that the 32-year-old would join Sheffield United last month to link-up once again with Nigel Adkins although that loan deal never came to fruition.

Hammond would no doubt welcome a move to the City Ground as it would give him the chance to play regular first-team football once again.

The combative central midfielder could be a shrewd addition to a young Forest squad and the player knows all about the Championship having spent the majority of his career playing in the second tier.

Forest could also look to enter the loan market for a striker with the club desperately short of goals so far this season.

Dougie Freedman’s side currently sit in 14th place in the Sky Bet Championship table, having accumulated 11 points from ten league games so fa this season.
