Nottingham Forest enter the race to sign exciting midfield talent

Nottingham Forest have entered the race for the signature of Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton, according to reports in The Northern Echo.

New Boro boss Aitor Karanka is reportedly keen to be reunited with his former midfield man, who was instrumental when the club secured promotion to the Premier League under the Spaniard in 2016.

However the new Forest manager faces a tough task if he is to bring Clayton to the City Ground, with Aston Villa, Leeds United and Cardiff City all interested in a deal for the former Huddersfield Town man this month.

Clayton has failed to appear in each of new Boro boss Tony Pulis’ first three games in charge, and it appears the player’s future at the club is over.

Forest are in desperate need of experience to add to their youthful side, and the impressive 28-year-old could prove to be the perfect first signing to kick off Karanka reign at the club.

The Verdict

Karanka is an excellent manager with a proven track record of success, and Forest have done excellently to convince the Spaniard that his future lies in the East Midlands.

A manager of Karanka’s standard will attract players to the club, and Forest must back their new boss in the transfer market if they are serious about securing promotion to the Premier League in the near future.

If Clayton can be acquired, then Forest could mount a late bid for the playoffs.
