Nottingham Forest are hoping to conclude a deal for Newcastle's Jack Colback, after the midfielder spent the second half of last season at the City Ground.

The 28-year old did reasonably well in that short spell in the East Midlands and appears to have done enough to convince Aitor Karanka he should be a part of the new-look Forest side now.

That's because the Northern Echo are reporting that the Reds are close to signing the player and they also revealed that Karanka admitted he was a target for the club when speaking to the Nottingham Post.

"I know Jack, and Jack knows me and the club. He was really important here last season. It is true that he is on our list."

The major stumbling block over the past few weeks is believed to be Colback's salary which is very hefty but with just one year left on his contract in the north east it appears the two clubs are close to reaching an agreement.

Should he arrive at Forest, the former Sunderland man would be their tenth signing this summer.

The Verdict

What a summer it has been for Nottingham Forest, they've really made some major signings and are making a big push for promotion.

However, they are probably short in midfield and Colback would be an ideal signing and would improve that area.

He knows the club, has obviously impressed Karanka and has a lot of experience which could be vital in this Forest team.
