Nottingham Forest are close to completing the signing of midfielder Ben Watson, who is currently undergoing a medical with the club, according to sources at HITC Sport.

The former Wigan man has been released from his contract with Watford and is expected to complete a deal with the Reds today once all the finer details are completed.

Watson came close to signing for Forest on deadline day but ultimately saw a deal curtailed in the final moments as the clubs failed to get the deal over the line. However, with the Hornets not releasing Watson, he is expected to complete his move to the Midlands today.

Watson should prove to be a useful signing for the Reds as they seek for a much improved second half to the season under new manager Aitor Karanka, who had a busy deadline day in itself, adding plenty of new faces to his squad including the likes of Lee Tomlin and Jack Colback.

Their latest signing in Watson will bring plenty of experience to the plate and has a winning goal in an FA Cup final to his name, when he famously netted a late header against Manchester City during his time with Wigan Athletic.

Forest fans, what do you make of the signing of Watson? Let us know in the comments!
