Nottingham Forest are reportedly on the verge on signing in-demand Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Rafa Mir.

It was reported by journalist Tim Nash yesterday that the forward was a target for both Forest and Midlands rivals Birmingham City but it now seems the Reds are set to win the race for him.

According to Express and Star journalist Tim Spiers, the Wolves striker is on the verge of joining Forest on loan with a view to a permanent move.

The 22-year-old scored seven goals in 30 appearances on loan with Spanish second division side Las Palmas last season.

He joined Wolves in January 2018 but has made just four appearances for the club and it seems as though his career at Molineux could now be almost over.

Mir had, according to El Periodico, previously been offered to Hull City on loan.

New Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi has been busy in the transfer market so far, with six players joining this summer, but is yet to add a new forward.

Lewis Grabban top-scored for the Reds with 17 goals last season and 36-year-old Daryl Murphy added six but no other striker made a contribution.

The Reds begin their 2019/20 Championship campaign against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The Verdict

Forest have added some quality to their squad this summer but they needed some more reinforcements upfront and Mir looks set to provide just that.

Outside the ageing Murphy and Grabban, who doesn’t have a great record of staying long at clubs having played for six in the past five years, Lamouchi’s only other option is untested 22-year-old Tyler Walker, so bringing in the Wolves man should give him some added depth.

With his move to Wolves having not worked out yet, Mir will surely be looking to prove himself in English football.

At just 22, the forward has great potential and if Forest can get a permanent move sorted in the future it could be a real coup.
