Wycombe Wanderers striker Uche Ikpeazu is attracting major Championship transfer interest following the Chairboys' relegation to League One, according to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas.

The 26-year-old only joined Gareth Ainsworth's side last summer from Scottish side Hearts, where he netted just five times in 40 league games.

Ikpeazu was similarly less-than prolific with Wycombe in 2020-21 as well, scoring six times in 31 Championship matches but it's his powerful presence that will be of interest to many Championship managers.

Standing at 6ft 3in and being quite quick for a big man, Ikpeazu is quite unique and his ability to play the target man role is seemingly of interest to the likes of Chris Hughton and Neil Warnock.

Former Reading academy graduate Ikpeazu has two years remaining on his contract at Adams Park but Wycombe may be willing to accept a decent six-figure fee for him - although Ainsworth did see Ikpeazu as the long-term replacement for veteran Adebayo Akinfenwa when he arrived last summer.

The Verdict

Despite not being the most prolific of strikers in his career, Ikpeazu definitely has some quality about him but you can't expect him to be a 20 goal a season forward.

He showed at times last season that his hold-up play was great and not many Championship defenders will be able to get the better of him if the ball is played up to him, but Ikpeazu is also able to run the channels pretty well, which brings other forward-thinking players into the equation.

Would he be a good fit for all the clubs linked? I'm not sure - Millwall already have target man options in Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Matt Smith, Derby have Colin Kazim-Richards who is a similar player, but Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough don't have the kind of striker that possesses Ikpeazu's abilities and he could be an interesting option for both.
