An injury to Joe Worrall meant that Danny Fox lined up alongside January signing Tobias Figueiredo at the heart of a makeshift Nottingham Forest back four when they travelled to the Championship's bottom side Burton Albion on Saturday.

A situation that was already less than ideal was worsened when Eric Lichaj was dismissed just before the half hour mark for a reckless challenge but Forest managed to hold on to earn a 0-0 draw.

The result continues Forest's struggles in front of goal but they did manage to keep a clean sheet despite playing for so long with ten men and Fox was full of praise for his central defensive partner.

He told the Nottingham Post: "Tobias was very good. He worked hard, he was no nonsense, he talked well, he defended how a defender should defend.

"He cleared the ball and did not try anything fancy. I thought it was a comprehensive debut. He did really well. Credit to the manager for putting him in, in such a big game.

"I don’t think you can get any more English type football than we saw today. It was a test and one he passed with flying colours."

The Verdict

As Fox alluded to, this was archetypal English football and it was a real backs to the wall job as soon as Lichaj was sent off.

Figueiredo had to be a leader, knowing the importance of the game to his side and he was. There is no greater praise than some coming from your central defensive partner and that is testament to how well the Portuguese defender played.
