Nottingham Forest right-back Tendayi Darikwa has been playing the best football of his City Ground career during the club’s current seven-match unbeaten run and has also been keeping fan favourite Eric Lichaj out of the team.
The Nottingham-born performer insists that he is happy to keep proving his worth but has also called on his team-mates to also continue showing the manager what they can do between now and the end of the campaign.
Forest are probably safe from relegation and with the play-offs firmly out of reach there is a lot to be said for the Reds not having a great deal left to play for. Darikwa insists that isn’t the case, however, stating that he and his team-mates have lots left to prove over the remainder of the season.
He told the Nottingham Post: “I am happy to be playing football, the manager has been picking me and I am part of an unbeaten team at the minute. It is about working hard every day and showing the manager that I am worthy of my place in the team.
“Gradually I hope I am starting to show what I am capable of and I hope there is more still to come.”
Darikwa says that motivation within the camp will not be an issue for the Forest squad between now and the end of the season, which will surely delight the club’s supporters.
He continued: “We still want to pick up as many points as possible and then see where it takes us. It is disappointing that we are in the position we are right now but we still have eight games left and we just want to win as many of those as possible.”
The Verdict
Tendayi Darikwa’s career at the City Ground has taken a while to get going but there is little to deny that he is showing his true worth at the moment.
He has been part of a back four that has kept three consecutive clean sheets and Forest supporters are now seeing the very best of him.
Competition is healthy in the right-back slot at the City Ground just now and that can only bode well ahead of next season.
