Nottingham Forest will be without Michael Dawson for the two games heading into October’s international break, with the defender picking up a calf injury in last night’s 3-2 win over Stoke City.

Dawson has been superb for Forest this season, captaining the side from centre-back and helping the Reds to the top of the league.

Yet, he picked up an injury in last night’s win at Stoke, limping off in the 34th minute.

Sabri Lamouchi’s side now have two games in the coming week ahead of October’s international break, but the Frenchman isn’t confident his captain will be fit.

“He has a problem in the calf. We will check him on Monday," Lamouchi said, as quoted by the Nottingham Post.

“I am not a doctor, but I don’t think he will be fit for Blackburn. Maybe Brentford as well, but I’m not sure."

Despite the blow of losing Dawson, last night’s win moved Forest to the top of the Championship table.

Lee Gregory had put Stoke ahead in the first-half, but Forest’s attackers responded with a blistering burst.

Joe Lolley, Sammy Ameobi and Lewis Grabban struck to pull Forest clear, before James McClean’s late goal made things difficult.

Ahead of today’s fixtures, Forest are one-point clear at the top of the table, but will be expected to drop away as results unfold over the afternoon.

The Verdict

This is obviously a blow for Forest that might get overlooked given their excellent form.

Dawson is a big part of the side, in terms of quality and leadership.

So, losing him for two games is disappointing and gives Lamouchi a headache.

Forest will want to keep this electric form going heading into the international break, but games against Blackburn and Brentford are tough, especially without your skipper.
