Nottingham Forest, Blackburn, and QPR are all interested in Sydney FC's Brandon O'Neill, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

The Australian joined Sydney FC in 2015, and since then he has helped the club to become champions of the A-League on two occasions, in 2017 and 2019 - his penalty in the Grand Final shootout last month having a big helping hand in that.

It is little surprise that there is interest in the 25-year-old. He does a great job of organising his team and protecting the back four, and last season chipped in with two goals and seven assists in 27 A-League appearances.

The Sydney Morning Herald state that O'Neill could be available for £400,000, but with Forest reportedly only having scouted the player so far, it looks unlikely that they will offer such a price so soon.

However, Forest could be in need of a midfielder with Liam Bridcutt and Claudio Yacob seemingly out of favour, with the latter linked with a move to Olympiacos.

The Verdict

This is an interesting move from Forest, even if they have only scouted him. The fact there is interest in him elsewhere in England suggests he could be ready for a move to the EFL, and given his determined attitude and physical nature he should be a good fit to the English game.

His versatility is a bonus too, as is his box-to-box nature. He is primarily a defensive player so could come in as a like-for-like replacement for Yacob but with more of an attacking presence. He works hard and is well-disciplined.
