Nottingham Forest have announced that Jack Robinson has completed his transfer to join high-flying Sheffield United in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old defender, who was out of contract in the summer, has lost his place in the Reds XI recently, with Yuri Ribeiro preferred at left-back by Sabri Lamouchi.

Therefore, the chance to join the Blades appealed to Robinson and Forest confirmed the deal had gone through on their official site earlier today.

Whilst the statement declared he had joined for an undisclosed fee, it had been reported that the Championship side would receive around £1m for the former Liverpool academy graduate.

Lamouchi is still well-stocked for options at left-back despite this sale, with Spanish defender Chema filling in at full-back earlier this season whilst Carl Jenkinson can also play in that position if need be.

Robinson leaves having made 59 appearances for Forest since joining on a free transfer after choosing to leave QPR, with 18 of those coming during the current campaign - although he had only featured once since mid-December.

The verdict

This seems like it's a move that should suit all parties. Firstly, Sheffield United have brought in a player who can fill in as their left centre-back or as a wing-back, for what is a relatively modest fee in Premier League terms.

Meanwhile, Forest have collected up to £1m for someone who is out of contract in the summer and given he arrived on a free, it would be natural to think he was a pretty big earner at the City Ground.

So, they have done pretty well out of this as well, and the money brought in and saved on wages should go on bringing in a new number nine that is still needed before the deadline.

As for Robinson, he is now at a top-flight club and will be relishing the chance to prove himself even though he faces a big battle to get in the XI.
