As confirmed on their official Twitter account, Championship side Nottingham Forest have let Gerry McDonagh join Tranmere Rovers on a short term loan.

With the international break on at the moment, clubs in the Championship do not have much to think about match wise and so now is always a good time for clubs lower down the leagues to try and get some loans done.

That, then, is what National League side Tranmere have managed to do and, as per the tweet, the Forest U23's attacker will be at Prenton Park for a month:

For sure, with Forest seemingly having exceptional young attacking talent coming out of their ears, McDonagh would have found it tougher than usual for a young player to try and get in the Forest senior side right now.

The likes of young Ben Brereton, Zach Clough and Barrie McKay are all established in the attacking third and so that shows McDonagh just the level he needs to be hitting.

Even so, his willingness to go out on loan and get first team action is promising and he'll be looking to forge a reputation for himself whilst he is with the Rovers.

The Verdict

It's always good to see a young player go out on loan to try and get those all important minutes that will see him develop as a player.

McDonagh didn't look likely to get senior games for Forest right now and so he'll be looking to catch the eye from further afield as he joins the north-west side.
